Why do brake rotors need to be replaced? Modern day brake pads are made of a very hard material. Most pads are either semi-metallic or ceramic. Car manufactures are continually using lighter materials to lessen the weight of vehicles to increase gas mileage. Brake rotors are not as heavy and thick as they have been in the past. Brake rotors are worn thin over time just like brake pads, although not as quickly. Brake rotors have strict thickness regulations that must be followed. If rotors that are under minimum thickness are used, brake failure can result.
Why do I have to pay for a diagnostic test? Computer controlled systems were introduced on new cars in 1981. Today's modern vehicles have as many as 28 computers working together on a very sophisticated network. The equipment and software to communicate with these systems which enables us to read stored trouble codes to locate the problem, and pinpoint test components and circuits cost tens of thousands of dollars. Needless to say, this does not include the hours and hours of continuous training needed to accurately use the data the diagnositc software provides. Most diagnostic procedures and tests require a minimum of 1 hour to determine the problem.
